Obituary for Ena Marie Gibson

GIBSON, Ena Marie (nee Jennings)
September 9, 1936 – January 5, 2020

It is with very heavy hearts that we announce that our mother, Ena Marie Gibson passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, January 5, 2020 at Guelph General Hospital. Ena had lived her last few years with dementia but never lost her enjoyment of life and continued to share her smile. Ena was predeceased by her loving husband Jim Gibson (2000). She will be greatly missed by her children Pat, Rick (Dahlia), Carolyn (Steven Cross) and honorary son, nephew Garry (Jackie 2019) Couture. Beloved grandmother of John (Stacey), Jeff (Kacey), Adam, and Tony, David and Wren, Nolan, and great granddaughter Nicole. Sister of the late Edna (Mitch 2002) Kennedy (2015), Ted (Dot) Jennings and Jim (Gloria) Jennings.

Ena was born on September 9, 1936 in Toronto and moved to Acton with her parents Ed and Edith Jennings in February of 1937. She was a proud Actonian through and through and despite moving to Guelph in October 2010, her heart always belonged to Acton. She attended Acton Public School and later did her practice teaching there. She taught at Robert Little Public School and then McKenzie Smith Middle School. A woman of many talents, she turned her hand to sewing, knitting, crocheting, cake decorating and was known for her baking skills. People will remember Mom and Dad and their video cameras taping events throughout the area. Travel was a passion and she was very proud of her extensive work on the family tree which extends over 8 large binders. Over the years Mom was a member of many community groups and always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.

The family will receive friends at MacKinnon Family Funeral Home, 55 Mill St. E., Acton on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Trinity United Church, 70 Mill St. E., Acton at 11 a.m.
Cremation will follow.

If desired, memorial donations to Heritage Acton or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
