Obituary for Gertrude Teresa O'Connor

In her 86th year, now in the arms of Our Lord and His Blessed Mother Mary. Granddaughter of Milton pioneer (1888) farm family, Philip and Hannah O’Connor. Gertrude was the last surviving child of eleven of Daniel and Nellie O’Connor, predeceased by sisters: Eileen, Rita, Marie and Margaret and brothers: John, Emmett, Joseph, Thomas, Philip and George. Although born with special challenges, Gertrude met them all with perseverance and acceptance by virtue of the loving care and support of family. She was very sociable and had many life-long friends. Until 2007, Gertrude was a member of the Peel Association for Handicapped Adults, (PAHA) where she enjoyed the crafts, bowling and other activities. In 2005 she and her beloved brother Philip, her caregiver for many years, moved to Burton Manor LTC facility in Brampton where staff and management cheerfully tended their needs until Philip’s passing in February 2006. Many thanks to the staff at Burton. In July 2010 Gertrude transferred to Allendale LTC in Milton. The kind understanding of Gertrude’s special needs while at Burton and Allendale has been greatly appreciated. Gertrude is survived by many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends and will be dearly missed. Rest in Peace Gertrude. You will forever be in our prayers. God Bless.
